Gibson ES-335 Now That Is A Trophy!
Twenty four year old Ryan Harrison took home what could easily be called the coolest of all the tennis trophy’s… a custom-made Gibson ES-335. This is the third year Gibson has designed the trophy. Speaking to The Commercial Appeal, tournament director Erin Mazurek said, “For us, it’s a Memphis pride point. We have such rich history by having the Gibson guitar factory here, and of course all our musical heritage here. The fans love it. It’s Memphis pride.” The tournament has worked hard to develop it’s musical theme for the tournament, The Open logo is in the shape of a guitar pick and the pre-match coin toss is decided with a flip of a guitar pick-shaped coin. Winners of both the singles and doubles finals, are presented with custom Gibson guitars, each one handmade in Memphis.
